Boyd J Peterson

Boyd Peterson’s practice emphasizes long term care Medicaid and related issues such as estate recovery, probate, and estate planning. He has 30 years of experience in long term care Medicaid. He enjoys helping people negotiate the Medicaid system when facing a long term care crisis. Mr. Peterson is a member of the Tax and Estate Planning Professionals of Idaho and serves as the chair of the Medicaid subcommittee. He is also a member of the Eastern Idaho Estate Planning Council and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorney’s.

 

He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Idaho Legal Aid Services, Inc., and is a past Chair of the Board. He previously served on the Board of Directors of Aid for Friends, a homeless shelter in Pocatello, Health West, Inc., and the Advisory Board for Health and Welfare in Region VI and Region VII. He is a past member of the Idaho Falls Interagency Council. He also served as a Commissioner for the Shelley Firth Fire District for several years.

Mr. Peterson received an Associates Degree from Ricks College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Utah State University. In 1986 he graduated, with distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law with a J.D. After graduation he worked as a legal editor for Lawyer’s Cooperative Publishing Company in  Rochester, New York, where he prepared research materials for attorneys. In 1990 he and his family returned to Idaho and he worked for Idaho Legal Aid Services handling primarily public benefits cases, including long term care Medicaid, housing cases, and other matters. In 1996 Mr. Peterson started his solo practice where he developed his current emphasis in long term care Medicaid and related issues. He also served as the City Attorney for the City of Firth for many years.

 

Over the years he has made presentations on long term care Medicaid. He and his wife, Lauri, both were raised in the Rigby area and now make their home in Firth. They have two sons and three daughters. Their children are married and have blessed them with fifteen wonderful grandchildren. They enjoy working in their yard, taking road trips, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Mr. Peterson is an avid runner, has participated in many races, including the Boston Marathon, and served as an assistant cross country and track coach at Firth High School for thirteen years.
